Trnava Municipal Office
Complete renovation of the Municipal Office in Trnava
Comprehensive transformation of a public institution in the city center
The renovation of Trnava Municipal Office represents a thoughtful renewal of an administrative building in the historic city center, with emphasis on environmental quality, sustainability, and openness to citizens. We based our work on the brief from the City of Trnava to create a modern, energy-efficient, and inclusive municipal office for the 21st century – an institution that will not only function well but also represent the values of contemporary local government.
Context and challenge
The building is located in Trnava's urban heritage conservation area, at the corner of Trhová and Paulínska streets. The pavilion building with a central circulation core is both morally and technically outdated. The goal was not only to achieve better technical parameters but to create a quality working and public environment with a clearly legible architectural expression and emphasis on the institution's openness to citizens.
Architectural solution
The design respects the original structure of the building while significantly transforming it. A new transparent client center visually connected to the exterior is created in the public space. It is spacious and equipped with waiting and relaxation zones for citizen-clients. Greenery and urban furniture in front of the building complete a pleasant urban ground-level environment and support the place's community character. The interior underwent complete reorganization. Quality workspaces and meeting rooms are created, with emphasis on spaces for citizens to meet with officials. The roof is designed as a green terrace with partial access for community use.
Efficiency and sustainability
A fundamental goal of the design was energy efficiency and operational economy. The design integrates solutions such as natural shading, efficient air exchange, rainwater harvesting, and green roofing. The renovation is carried out with regard to environmental and economic parameters, thereby reducing the building's future operating costs.
Architecture for the community
A municipal office is not just a place of administration. It becomes a space for dialogue between the city and its inhabitants. We are helping to transform the building into an institution that appears trustworthy, modern, and respectful toward the city and its history. The project is proof that even a public building can be architecturally valuable, functionally efficient, and open to people.
